Recently I was contacted by WCPI to participate with their on going Tribal Youth Leadership training program (middle and high school level). Their goal is to provide students with leadership skills so they are able make positive changes in their lives and within their community.
So far, I have traveled with them to work with students on a reservation in South Dakota and at a group home in Utah. I did a presentation on making choices and used tie-dye as a metaphor for life. I started out with very basic choices and demonstrated how making one choice opens up new paths. At the end I helped each student create their own tie-dye tee shirt. The presentation stretched my comfort level a bit. I have done many classes, but this was the first time since high school that I have given a speech.
I loved sharing this message with students who needed to hear it. I have been writing about choices and thoughts and how you can change your life for the last twelve years through poems and stories. After this presentation I knew I wanted to share more of my beliefs with the hopes of helping people who are not living the life they want.
It was at this point I decided to write a book. Shortly after making this decision I heard about a contest called 'The Next Top Self Help Author' so I joined. I have been sitting down and writing whenever I am inspired to do so and I have put some of this writing online in my blog.
